Fresh 48 Newborn Photography

Those first days with your newborn are filled with tiny, unforgettable moments—the way their fingers curl around yours, their peaceful sleeping expressions, and those sweet newborn stretches and sounds. As both a photographer and mother, I know how quickly these early moments slip by, especially when you’re adjusting to life with your new little one.

Fresh 48 session captures these fleeting details, preserving the magic of your baby’s first hours of life in a relaxed, natural way. Below are answers to some common questions about Fresh 48 photography and what to expect.

General

Should I contact you when I check in to the hospital or after giving birth?

Please feel free to drop us a message once you’re checking in or already checked in. While we’ll be happy to stay updated, the exact date for the session will only be confirmed once you have delivered and are settled in your room. This allows us to plan around your recovery and your baby’s schedule, typically within the first 24-48 hours after birth.

Must the shoot only can be done within 48 hrs?

While Fresh 48 sessions are typically done within the first 24-48 hours after birth, they can still be scheduled a little later if needed. Some families prefer to wait until they’re more rested or until they’re home from the hospital. If there are any medical reasons, C-section recovery, or hospital restrictions, we can adjust the timing while still capturing those early newborn moments. The key is to photograph your baby while they’re still in their newborn phase, usually within the first few days.

Do i need permission from the hospital for a Fresh 48 session?

In most cases, you don’t need special permission from the hospital for a Fresh 48 session. However, it’s always a good idea to check with your nurse about the newborn’s schedule. Hospitals sometimes have routine procedures like pediatric checkups, hearing tests, or vaccinations, so knowing when your baby will be in your room helps us plan the best time for your session. If needed, we can work around these schedules to ensure a smooth and stress-free experience.

Can siblings join the Fresh 48 session?

Absolutely! Siblings are welcome to be part of the session. A Fresh 48 shoot is a beautiful way to capture the first moments between your newborn and their older siblings, whether it’s their first meeting, gentle cuddles, or sweet kisses. If the sibling is very young, we recommend having another adult present to help. Just check with the hospital’s visitor policy to ensure siblings are allowed in the room during the session.

What if we’re not ready for photos after our baby arrives or the birth doesn’t go as planned?

Birth is unpredictable. We completely understand that! If you’re not feeling up to a Fresh 48 session, we offer the flexibility to switch to an in-home newborn session once you’re settled at home.

What happens if I go into labor earlier or later than expected?

Since due dates are unpredictable, we keep a flexible schedule. Just notify us as soon as possible after birth so we can plan accordingly.

What if I need to reschedule?

We understand that birth and recovery are unpredictable. If needed, we can adjust the session date or switch to an at-home newborn session.

What kind of moments do you capture during a Fresh 48 session?

Fresh 48 sessions focus on authentic, unposed moments, like your baby’s tiny details (fingers, toes, etc.), first cuddles with parents, siblings meeting the newborn, and emotional interactions in those first few hours.

Can I request specific shots or poses?

Absolutely! If there’s a special shot or pose you’d like, we’ll do our best to make it happen. If we can do it, we’ll happily capture it for you! Just let us know what you're envisioning, and we’ll work with you to make those moments extra special.

How long does a Fresh 48 session last?

Sessions typically last around 45 minutes, but we always follow your baby’s lead. If we need to pause for feedings, diaper changes, or extra snuggles, that’s completely fine. These real-life moments often make for the most meaningful photos.

What if our baby Is fussy or uncooperative during the session?

Newborns do things on their own schedule, and that’s completely okay! We approach every session with patience and flexibility, allowing for breaks when needed. Often, the unplanned moments—soothing, cuddling, rocking—turn out to be the most beautiful and heartfelt images.

How should we dress our baby for the photos?

Simple is beautiful for Fresh 48 sessions. A soft, neutral swaddle or simple onesie allows your baby’s features to shine.

What is Fresh 48 Newborn Photography?

Fresh 48 photography documents your baby’s first 48 hours, usually in your hospital room before heading home. These sessions capture authentic, real-life moments—tiny yawns, wrinkly newborn skin, first family snuggles, and the incredible love that fills the room.

How do I secure a booking?

A non-refundable deposit of 50% of the full amount is required to secure the scheduled date. The balance of 50% is payable in full on the day of the shoot.

What happens if you can't make it due to strange timing or an unexpected emergency, will I get a refund?

Absolutely! A full refund of your deposit will be given in this situation or applied towards a different session type.

When should I schedule my Fresh 48 session?

Scheduling is suggested as soon as possible. We recommend 3-4 months prior to your due date to ensure availability. We typically only accept 1-2 sessions per month.

What if my baby needs to be in the NICU?

In this event, we will stay in touch, and it is handled on a case-by-case basis. We may need to work with hospital staff to find out what we are and aren’t able to do. In the event that I am unable to photograph the Fresh 48 as planned due to these circumstances, your deposit will be applied to a future session.

Will hospital staff be in the pictures?

Our intention is to photograph immediate family, so in almost all cases, no.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. We are happy to help in any way we can.
